Chef Alex Franson is a Durham based chef renowned for his knowledge- focused approach to American cuisine, blending traditional techniques with local flavors. With 20 years of experience in the culinary world he has honed his craft in quality restaurants across the Eastern United States.
Early on, he developed a love for cooking through his family’s homestyle meals and the diverse international influences of his friends. After serving in the military, he returned to the industry and studied at the esteemed Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.
His time working in various kitchens helped to cultivate a deep respect for the skills and artistry of cooking and the significance of using high-quality ingredients.

Culinary Journey

Alex's journey has taken him through many exceptional establishments, where he has worked alongside, learned from and taught some of the industry’s most respected Chefs. His career highlights include key roles at beloved Mid-Atlantic restaurants, where he evolved and elevated their menus. Always Committed to understanding where his food comes from, Chef Alex has also owned and operated a small farm, producing a wide variety of goods.

Philosophy and Culinary Focus In the kitchen, Alex focuses on creativity while helping others to hone their classical skills. Often incorporating unexpected elements he emphasizes the artistry of plating plainly, believing that a dish should be a feast for all the senses and a visual compliment to the surroundings. Chef’s signature dishes like his Farmer’s burger, smoked Maitake ramen, and goat Merguez showcase his talent for transforming simple ingredients into memorable experiences. By collaborating with local farmers, he aims that each dish will reflect the region's culinary tapestry.
